DAY 2—“The Road
to the Nuptials”
Dear Brimley,
We arrived safe and sound in Richmond with a few adventures
along the way. As we were filling up our car with gas before we left
Greensboro, we discovered the gas pump did not automatically cut off and gas
went pouring out of the car on to the pavement. Father Daniel and I both popped
into a very lively dance routine at that point. I provided a few squealing
sound effects. But heroically, Father Daniel got the situation back under
control. We then proceeded down the highway with me driving and Father Daniel
was in charge of small electronic items. As you know, Brimley, I am the one in
our household in charge of such items, so this was not a comfortable role for
Father Daniel. Between charging the cell phones, operating the I-Pod, an mp3
player he was near breaking point when I asked him to set the GPS. He struggled
valiantly and then when he couldn’t enter the street and house number he began
to use language I dare not repeat to you and shouted “Stupid GPS… that thing is
just STUPID” and he thrust it back in the glove compartment. Well, it began to
talk to us about “toll roads” and other matters and I finally asked, “What did
you enter for our destination????” He said it wouldn’t take a street and that
he chose “Anywhere” in Richmond. I am sorry, but I confess that I laughed so
hard I was having trouble keeping the car moving straight. I am happy to report
we finally made it to Mistress Carly and
Jay’s without event. I am sending you a
picture today of their housecat Phinny… He is a jolly sort and a creature you
would find more than companionable. I am also enclosing a photo of the couple’s
“square foot garden” that I thought you would find impressive.
I must be off for more adventures and will faithfully keep
you posted. Photo of the couple coming soon.
